Blog vs Forums – your thoughts

May 21st, 2009 steve

For a while I have been contemplating opening the forums back up again, as it seems there are more folks out there both reading the blog, and interested in commenting on things.  I’ve had a bunch of folks emailing me on various fronts, and also a few people posting comments on the blog.

I don’t think I would give up the blog – I would integrate it somehow into the forums, but I’m wondering if there is enough interest to have an open forum not affiliated with a test vendor, and allow for articles, a link directory, and blog space for anyone who registers.

If you’re interested, please post a comment or drop me an email…

I personally like the blog better. You tend to remove the marketing slant on things and people are free to comment if they wish. I think the increase in activity you are seeing is due to the new format more then anything else.

Perhaps a hybrid approach and go more of a mixed format (e.g. slashdot). You control what is worthy of posting, but allow submissions. That would most likely increase comments even more.

Good idea, Dennis. I’d be open to others posting things if there’s interest. The technology behind the blog definitely allows that to happen…

I agree – I noticed that you allow people to register and have user accounts. I just signed up so I can contribute if you’re interested in having additional people write. Let me know…
